Real Chat with Ericka Wagner
Ericka Wagner is the proud mother of daughter Claire. She is an Esthetician and loves when she can find time for her artwork. Her family lives in the beautiful mountains of Utah.
PROJECT 375: When you wake up in the morning do you know what kind of day you are going to have?
Ericka: My mornings are insane, and are never the same. I’m almost always woken up by Claire who likes to mess with me to no end by not having a regular schedule. I’m usually fairly balanced in the morning and can keep that frame of mind through the day a lot. It really doesn’t take much to trigger my anxiety though. If Claire has a bratty attitude it will definitely make for an anxiety filled, horrible day. A couple of those in a row and I’m battling a full blown BPD spiral.
PROJECT 375: What is your biggest accomplishment thus far?
Ericka: As a mother of course my child is always my biggest accomplishment. Claire and I have faced some pretty steep mountains in her three years that have made me inexplicably stronger. But I would have to say that I am probably most proud of the success I have had as an entrepreneur. I have had my own esthetics (skin care/facials) business for almost ten years! I have struggled, I have had some failures but at the end of the day I know I have helped so many people inside and out. I’m truly blessed to be able to help so many people.
PROJECT 375: Why is art so important to you?
Ericka: I remember even as a small child coloring in coloring books, being filled with this immense pride when I finished an impeccable page. I spent tons of time at my grandma’s flower shop painting and doing ceramics as well. I’ve always enjoyed creating things from a blank slate. Art can bring beauty in even the darkest times
PROJECT 375: Do you have one daily ritual you can’t live without?
Ericka: I wouldn’t necessarily call it a ritual but I like to appreciate the mornings. I don’t like to be rushed into the day and if I am forced to jump into the day quicker than I like I am miserable all day. I’m a stickler for my facial routine!
PROJECT 375: Tell us about your approach to healing through holistic methods.
Ericka: I have always had an interest in helping people and knew that I would make a career out of it. When I went to esthetics school I became even more aware of the body’s energy and how important it is to keep it in balance. I had been on meds on and off for years and was very interested in a different approach. For the first few years I didn’t know how I was going to make it happen but I knew that timing was everything. One day I discovered essential oils and that was that, my love for all things natural snow balled. I’m now able to offer a full facial menu with all natural products that my mom and I have formulated. I am always getting asked about what oils are good for this or that and I love being able to teach people about how versatile the uses and applications can be. I’m currently studying healing with crystals and gem stones and chakra and energy work. I hope to further my education in a variety of areas like these once my daughter starts school.
PROJECT 375: What’s one thing you wish people would understand about your struggle?
Ericka: If there was one thing I wish people would really, truly understand it’s that I don’t choose to be this way. I’m not anti-social I am in full panic mode. It’s not that I don’t want to do things it’s that it’s damn near debilitating for me. I wish that I could go to the store without feeling like my heart is going to burst out of my chest. I’m not being dramatic, it’s not being blown out of proportion, I can’t help it.
